Zac – Bringing A community together

Today I wanted to tell you all about an incredible young boy called Zac and how my local town has all come together because of this amazing little boy.

I live in a small town called Telford which is in Shropshire. I will be very honest and say our town doesn’t have the best of reputations. Despite a lot of effort to change this and turn it into an incredible town sometime the people don’t give off a good impression so I was completely in awe when I saw how much my town came together because of Zac.

Who is Zac?

Zac is a 4 year old boy who absolutely loves dinosaurs. In fact one of the things he really wants to do is to go and meet the biggest ever dinosaur!
This amazing little boy has the most unusual and rare forms of cancer in the world and it is believed that he may be the only child in the entire UK that has it.

He suffers from this very rare form of Near Haploid Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia is a type of cancer that affects the white blood cells. It progresses rapidly and aggressively and requires immediate treatment. Both adults and children can be affected.

Sadly around 4 in every 5 children who have this form of cancer lose their lives. However there is a treatment called Car T which is available and can help. Unfortunately Zac does not fall under the criteria required to receive this treatment in the UK. Before Zac can be given it he has to have a relapse and if this happens then his chances of recovering are extremely slim.

So how has Zac managed to bring a whole community together?

Zac’s family need to raise £500 thousand pounds to take him to America before he relapses. News spread fast around Telford and within days people were doing everything they could to help raise money.

Many of the local schools held a wear red for Zac day where all of the pupils paid £1 and went to school wearing as much red as they could. Each school raised an incredible amount of money with one school raising an incredible £1400

My neighbour spent hours with her daughter hand making bracelets which they then sold without a particular price on them and just asking for donations. She then went round asking people for donations and managed to raise over £700.

There have been many events including walking up and down our local hill The Wrekin for 12 hours.  With Zacs uncle Wayne pushing somebody up there in a wheel barrow. Believe me when I say I struggle to walk up there just by myself let alone pushing somebody else and in a wheel barrow!

Even businesses have been involved

Zac has touched everyones hearts so much that even local businesses joined in the fun of fundraising. The local cinema has kindly given a screening of The Good Dinosaur  on 28th October where all money taken will be going straight to Zac’s fund. This is brilliant because not only is it raising more money but it’s also giving parents the chance to spend some time with their little ones whilst helping.

People have rallied around  to hold a Zacfest in Telford Town Park with many local bands performing on the 14th. Not only that but they are also going to attempt to break a world record with that ever lovely non annoying song baby shark whilst it’s happening!

Companies have donated prizes for raffles and fundraising events whilst also raising funds theirselves. Even bikers and truckers have arranged convoys all in Zacs name.

You can find out all about all of the events happening on Zacs Facebook Page and you can also see all of the incredible things that people are doing to help this little boy.

It would take me forever to tell you everything everyone has done but the efforts that have been made are just outstanding.

I’m proud

I have to say I am so proud of my little town and the people in it. It certainly restores faith in humanity watching so many people coming together for this incredible little boy. The sheer amount of hard work and dedication is something to be admired and this wouldn’t be happening if they weren’t doing it for this little boy. Zac truly had bought a whole community together.

There is still a way to go

Despite everyone’s best efforts including some celebrities ( Jermain Defoe has created a video, as have some of the Wolves players and even Alan Sugar has retweeted the cause)  there is still quite a way to go before everyone reaches the target and time is running out quickly.

I genuinely can’t imagine what this family is going through but I do know that Freddie is the same age and if he was going through this then I would want every single bit of help no matter how small to help get my son the treatment he needs.

How can you help?

There is a text line where you can enter the word ZACH75 and the amount you wish to donate to 70070

A just giving page where you can add your donation.

If you are feeling the pinch and can’t afford much yourself then you could host a coffee morning and ask people to donate for their drink or do a sponsored event yourself.

Whether you are in Telford or not I know this family really appreciate everyone’s efforts to help their little boy.

Thank you

Thank you so much to everyone who has already been involved with raising money for Zac , you have shown me that maybe the world isn’t as bad as it appears and that there are still some very good people out there.

Thank you to Zac and his family for bringing our entire town together.

Thank you to my readers for taking the time to read this and I would really appreciate it if you would share it, no matter where you live. Also if you happen to know any companies or celebrities who may be able to help to spread the word about Zac that would also be incredible.
