If like me you have an inbetweener little girl you will find they are extremely difficult to buy for. A little bit too big for dolls and too young for make up. Annabelle is 9 and not particularly into anything at all. She has no favourite characters/games etc so when it comes to buying for her it can be a bit of a minefield.

There’s no denying it: moving is a big job. Use this moving timeline to stay on track with your packing, end of tenancy cleaning, and other tasks.
We get it. Moving is a stressful time. You’ve got overlapping bills, more boxes than you know what to do with, and people who wanted this over a week ago. Point being, there are a lot of avoidable mistakes during the moving process.
Neglecting your moving timeline should be the easiest one to avoid. Here, we’re breaking down a complete moving plan template for you to work with, starting at week eight. Let’s get to it!
Your Moving Timeline
In a move, there is…well, an awful lot of moving parts to balance. You know your moving date and where you’re moving to, but suddenly, a million jobs materialize in the meantime.
It doesn’t have to be intimidating. The easiest way to think about the process is to work in reverse. You should start your moving tasks about eight weeks out.
First things first: it’s decision time.
You know where you’re moving. Now you need to decide whether you’re moving alone or with assistance from the pros. Moving on your own might save you a little money, but it will also cost you a lot more time, so make a decision about what’s most valuable to you.
If you do decide to hire a moving company, shop around and get quotes from a few reputable options. If you decide to move on your own, now is the time to book a rental moving truck especially if you’re moving during the summer months.
Either way, you should create a binder or start a new notebook. This is where all of your moving details will reside.
For example, all of your task lists, or the inventory of the entire house that you need to take. And while you’re taking a household inventory, you also need lists of what’s coming with you, what’s getting donated, and what’s staying behind.
You should also verify your moving dates with your boss (and new boss, if you’re changing jobs).
At six weeks, you’ve had two weeks to dig into the early stages of moving.
Now, it’s time to really get the ball rolling.
Specifically, it’s time to get all your paperwork in order. Visit your doctor for your medical records. If you have a pet, visit them for your pet’s records. If you have children, you need to obtain their school records.
On a related note, you’ll also need to find a new healthcare provider in your new area, as well as a new vet for your pets and a new school for your kids (if you have a pet or children). Also, take your pets (and your kids) in to get any vaccinations updated.
While you’re there, ask your vet about things you can do to make the move easier on your furry friends. It’s a stressful time for them, and you want to make it as painless as possible.
This is also the point at which you should get your mail redirected with Royal Mail and update your address with HM Revenue and Customs (if applicable). This will ensure that nothing is lost in the post (and protects important mail, like bank cards).
Only a month left before you move house!
At this point, if you’re moving on your own, start calling your friends to ask for help. The sooner you ask, the better chance that they’ll say yes.
You should also acquire moving supplies if you haven’t already, including:
• Packing paper
• Bubble wrap
The packing process should be well underway. However, you shouldn’t pack non allowable items, which are items that movers won’t transport due to potential health risk or liability.
These include hazardous items like:
• Paint thinner
• Nail polish and nail polish remover
• Ammunition, guns, and other weapons
• Fire extinguisher
• Bleach and cleaning solvents
• Motor oil
• Weed killer
• Household batteries
However, it also includes personal or sentimental items such as:
• Sterling silver
• Stocks and bonds
• Collections of any kind (coins, postage stamps, etc.)
• IRAs, deeds, tax records, etc.
• Medical and dental records
• School records
• Professional files
• Financial documents
• Car titles and car keys
• Cash and chequebooks
• Computers and other technology
• Insurance policies
• Photos and photo albums
In general, if you have any items of this kind, you should plan on moving them yourself. You should also plan on personally moving any items of particular value or delicacy, like expensive art, fine china, old books, or antiques.
With this in mind, you should begin making travel arrangements, regardless of how you plan on travelling to your new abode. If you plan on driving, get your car serviced. If you plan on flying, find a reliable auto transporter. And while you’re at it, book any hotels, relevant tickets, and important documents.
Only two weeks out, and things should be moving along. If you hired a moving company, call them to make sure everything’s going according to plan.
You should also get in touch with your utility companies to negotiate when service will end shortly before your move out and when services will turn back on after your moving day.
If you live in an apartment, reserve a freight elevator for your move-out day, and make the reservation for longer than you think you might need, just in case.
Also, if you haven’t addressed your storage areas yet (garage, basement, attic, etc.) then take the time to pack them. As with the lift, allocate more time than you think you need.
This is also the time to have a farewell party if you plan on hosting one. If nothing else, it helps you use up food supplies that aren’t travelling with you.
Only seven days left until the Day of Chaos. Are you ready?
Check any lingering bills and pay any that are due before move out, and hold onto receipts as proof of payment.
This is also when you should return any rentals (library books, movie rentals, and borrowed items from friends). Your packing should be finished, and now is the time to disassemble large furniture.
At this point, since everything is packed, you should go through your whole house and make a cleaning checklist. If you’re planning on bringing in end of tenancy cleaners, now is the time to do so.
Moving Day actually starts the day before. Do any final checks, pack up any remaining items, and put anything you’re personally moving in the car. Give everyone a good meal and a good night’s sleep the night before–you’re going to need it.
The morning of, you should get up extra early to do any last-minute tasks. Kids and pets should be removed from the epicentre of moving, preferably in a safe/empty room of the house.
If you have movers, keep an eye on everything. Before a single box is touched, make sure they have all the right information (destination and phone number). And if there are forms, don’t sign anything without reading it.
